OMG This is wonderful. I remember this place so fondly as a child. That barrel roll and the Rocket ship climbing frame brought back instant memories of my childhood. I later went on to take my own kids there but it kind if lost its charm by then and most of the animals in the 00's. The small rodent house with Bunnies and Guinea Pigs and smell is an abiding memory. Just brilliant 👍👍👍🐒
Stunning, Retford seemed such an idyllic, beautiful town then. I love seeing the change from them to now. The vast rows of soldiers too at the Memorial Cenotaph was particularly touching. Keep up the great work producing these fabulous, historical mini documentaries.
Thanks again Jon
Another wonderful blast from the past. I know Worksop well, I was born at Kilton Hospital which disappeared long ago. Thank you for the trip 😁
Thanks Jon, one correction though the old Kilton Hospital is still there though no beds in it now, mainly used for storage and admin.
An amazing collection of images. I grew up in Retford and know all the places in the photos and I am stunned by how much and at the same time how little they have changed. A great trip into the past. Thanks for the memories 😁
Thanks for your kind words, glad you enjoyed it, hope they were happy memories.
You are so welcome, I thoroughly enjoyed it and yes it did bring back some great memories. 👍
So so good, really good historic information
Hi There were 3 houses, terrace, where Castle Hill car park is today. This is where West St and Castle St meet. There is still the old stone wall with a gateway in the middle today. I think they were demolished in the late 50's early 60's. I have pictures of my mam's wedding reception in the garden.
Have you got any pictures of the 3 houses on top of castle hill. Now it's the little car park across from lead hill. My Grandma used to live in one. Her garage is now the worksop radio club.
The only picture I have of old buildings at the top of Castle hill can be seen in Old Worksop in Colour - Six, Could your Grandma's house have had a West Street address?
look what they took from us...
I was born and brought up in Worksop,my dad still lives in Worksop hes nearly 84, I love these, thank you for sharing,my dad will love all these memories,he was the security at bairnswear for 25+ years, thankyou for this amazing collection
Thank you Karen, glad you enjoyed them.
My Uncle Ernie …. Also had a brother Harry who was my Grandad. His son Gordon is in the video and also was a musician at The Palais. His sister Norma was my Mum a landlady and singer.
My home town . Certainly looked better in those photos
I grew into a young man through these times, sad to see how Worksop’s has collapsed, I don’t think any amount of money will bring the town centre back to life, you can blame high rental cost introduced by the council, these days I rarely go into town for anything at all.
We really do appreciate you - Thank you for your work.
Another lovely video - Thank You vey much.
Thank you Hilary.
Thank you a delightful little video complemented by your lovely voice.
Thanks for your kind comment Hilary.
Thank you. what a great reminder of how Worksop used to be, shops and people. So sad yo see it today. Always like to see if I recognise someone. Not this time.
Any relation to Wally, Barry Pearson?.
So Shireoaks was a much older pit than most around it. Do you have any pictures of. North and South Anston, please. Thank you.
My blister,, worked at Burnswear. Do you recall a kind of blacksmith workshop?. Think it was, situated, where Matalan car park is now?. A Hungarian man had it. My Dad's friend.
Can I ask, are there any pictures of, the liquorice factory, or feuds in Carlton, please?.
Another big thank you for the great footage.
Thank you for this wonderful film.
Many Thanks, glad you enjoyed it
Thank you so much once again. An excellent production. Fascinating. Do you have any pics of Highins ice cream, please?.
No, sorry I don't, I do know of them, the other two from that era Manfredi & Parnhams I have but I'll keep a lookout.
@@WorksopItsPastItsPeople Thank you for your reply. Yes, I remember Manfridas..A friend's family had Higgins ice cream. It was down Cheapside on Vernon Street. The building I have been told is still, there? But I'm not sure. They had a horse and cart, and the horse knew where to stop, outside the pubs. They used to so, I believe, travel to, Clumber Park, and other places. One of the family was nicknamed, ''Hornblower Higgings', they called him that, because on his bicycle cart, he'd bow his horn, and make people jump in Dinnington. I do have, or had a picture, of a cart in one park, with First World War soldiers standing by it in uniform, I'll try to find it and send it to you. Can't promise. all the best moog.
Wonderful. Thank you so much. Does anyone remember Higgins icecream. Vernon street?.
Loved the video, i'm in Australia now, but born in Kilton there, my grandparents lived in Gateford Rd, nan used to have lending library there, Grandfather was a window cleaner, Bower was there surname
Glad you enjoyed the video, I knew a Jo Bower who was a window cleaner, he had a son called Jeff who I used to knock around with as teenagers, both now sadly not with us. Jeff had a son Steve who I'm in contact with. The family lived on Cheapside
Great video, My only request is that you slow these down so we have at least double the amount of time to look at the photos.
Glad you enjoy them, I try to keep them brief so you don't lose interest, you can always have the pause button ready if you want to linger.
Really like youre vids, Worksop has changed so much since these photos! But its the same everywhere i guess..Thanx for posting.👍
Thank you, Glad you like them!
Wonderful video. The narrators voice, lovely. However the music is too loud and spoils the listening to the narrator.
Thanks for the comment Hilary, glad you enjoyed the pictures, sorry about the music it is difficult to get the balance right when its being produced listening to it through a studio speaker as against a T.V,. computer, Ipad, or phone they all make it sound different, but I'll make a note to check with the next one.
How beautiful!! Before multiculturalism and awful governments for the past 70 years
sadly worksop looks nothing like this anymore , if anything it looks more like afghanistan , i wonder why 🙄
I was born in 1980, I lived on Priorswell Road (number 19) until 2007 🙂 I left Worksop in 2014 when my then girlfriend got pregnant and we moved to her home town of Hoyland near Barnsley, watching videos like this brings back loads of childhood memories as if they happened yesterday 🥲 3:09
Thanks Rob, Glad you enjoyed it.
Majority of these have gone, White Swan on Ward Lane was up for sale last I heard. That the vine and french horn are only three left in town with glazed tiles on exterior. The should not be altered, Sign of quality, shoulld be preserved.
Worksop was a thriving market town. Wednesday's you couldn't move when the cattle market was on! The place was heaving. Now you are lucky if you see dossers in the doorways! Shops are empty. Council moan nobody comes shopping, whats the point when there are no decent shops! Prefer to support local not online, but if council don't help local businesses we are up the creek without a paddle!
Up the Tigers
Any old pictures of bridge terrace ?
Just a couple but only looking from the entrance.
The thing that strikes me about many of the current day views in general is the spread of dreadful, trashy signs everywhere.
You mentioned the kettle that was hung outside jp forest's,it is still in its complete form down at forrests works on claylands
Great video. Liked and subscribed 👍 I do have drine footage of sone parts of Worksop on my channel.
*drone *
Very sad that it's changed so so much
Definitely remember a lot of these. Co op on Watson Rd was New Coop because original was still on Victoria Square running down Eastgate with bank and Chemists. They knocked it down built new and ended up as Matalan. Car park is dodgy at the minute, pavement is collapsing at the side of the canal!
Worksop had some good buildings in early 70's, demolished to make way for rubbish which stayed empty for years. Now they are either demolishing again! or trying to refurbish to encourage new tenants. Good luck with that! Until council try to encourage local, not a chance.
where are all the shops and shoppers gone
was nice here hen market etc. ghost town now apart from none speaking loud mouths scroungers so sad
spent some time in Garbsen with the army its nice in summer but not in winter
Seeing videos of famous people and royals visiting Worksop makes me ashamed to look at what Worksop has become today.
Better than now
i was DJ at Ace of clubs
Brilliant 👍loved it.
Thanks again Sam & Jenny
Kingeddys, London Road 92-97 cracking time, Smokers union/Schindler's list everyday of the week!! Bupton (hands on hair sniffing) + Paddy (the drunk) worst teachers in history!! RETO 90's life GREAT TIMES!!!
